About Sarah
Bsc (Speech and Hearing Science)
Sarah graduated from Curtin University in 1999. She is registered as a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist with Speech Pathology Australia.
Speech Pathology Journey
Sarah has 25 years experience working as a paediatric speech pathologist. She started her career with Collie Health Service, before returning to Perth to work with the Child Development Service for six years. Looking for some different experiences she moved to the UK and worked for the NHS in schools and community health centres around England and Northern Ireland for eight years. After returning to Perth, she resumed working with the Child Development Service.
Special Interests
Sarah has a particular interest in speech sound disorders and has attended many workshops to develop a high level of knowledge in this area. She can assess and analyse a child’s speech sound system and identify a therapy approach best suited to the child that will result in fast progress towards intelligible speech.
Sarah is trained in VERVE Child Interaction, a video-based approach to speech and language therapy that focuses on parents using their interactions with their child to support communication and learning in the early years.
She is also trained in the Lidcombe Program for young children who stutter.
Why babies and children?
I am so lucky to be able to support young children to develop their language, speech and fluency skills so they can communicate more easily with others. Being part of their journey and knowing that I am making a positive difference in their lives is incredibly rewarding.
I like to work closely with a child’s parents to help them understand their child’s communication strengths and the areas requiring support. I coach parents in how they can support their child in the family’s daily routine and to run effective speech and language home practice sessions. I love being able to provide play-based therapy sessions that are as fun for me as they are for the child.
Non work life
Sarah is a mother of one. She is busy learning gardening and DIY skills to renovate her new home, and when she gets a chance enjoys sewing clothes for herself and her daughter. Down time is enjoyed at the beach or down south.Â
